Hi Van Sloan!

My biggest worry when I first started studying people was will this be a waste of time? Can social skills really help me with my career goals?

In the beginning, I thought improving my social prowess was a nice to have not a need to have. I assumed it would help me at parties, when meeting new friends and maybe occasionally chatting with my colleagues. Ha! Boy, was I in for a surprise.

Little did I know things would change for me in 3 major ways:

1. People skills directly improved my bottom line. I was able to raise my rates. I learned how to pitch my ideas better to get more clients.

Fact: People with higher interpersonal intelligence make an average of $29,000 more per year.

2. I was amazed when people skills began to serve as a social lubricant in ALL of my interactions--including VIPs, in-laws and potential clients.

Fact: Individuals with strong interpersonal communication report being 42% happier and more fulfilled with their lives.

3. The best of all was that people skills also became a kind of social glue. They made my ideas more sticky, my conversations more memorable and helped people remember me and my name.

Fact: 90% of top business performers have high PQ.

The biggest myth about people skills is that: people skills are just about people.

Yes, of course interpersonal intelligence will help you decode people, predict behavior and understand motivations. But it will also help you achieve your BIGGER goals.
